They have announced the opening day of the new Legacy Freeway (U-67),
and it is set for September 13th at 5pm.
Before that there will be a bicycle and footrace on the new road. Go
to http://www.legacytour.com/ for what that is about.
Other project news:
I-80: All 12 bridges they planned to replace this year are in,
includes everything between the 'Nest of Vipers' and 13th East. Also
the bridge at 33rd South and I-215, and the two up Parleys Canyon at
Lambs Canyon and East Canyon.
Watch the National Geographic Channel's 'Tough Fixes' in November, I
think they said it will be November 26th, for the episode that
features this project.
I-15/84 multiplex near Ogden: Project to make this freeway 6-8 lanes
from the I-84 south interchnage to the 26th North interchange has been
finished ahead of schedule and under budget.
U-171 surface road project: 13th East to 56th West. The water line
is substantially in, some issues here and there remain. Next comes
the electrical line project, then the MAX busway, project still will
not be complete for at least another year. Road is rather rough in
the entire corridor due to how many places they had to dig. MAX is a
three-door bus that operates with limited stops, much like a 'light
rail on rubber wheels' as they call it. Click on the MAX links at
http://www.rideuta.com/ for more info on this project, includes some
pictures, plus a link to the UDOT page for 35th South.
U-52 'Orem 800 North' from US-89 to just west of old 'Osmond
Studios'. Nearly complete, islands laid, one layer of pavement and
striping plus bringing up utility cover holes. Road will be six lanes
after this. Scheduled for final completion of major work by September
30th, just some minor work will remain after that.
All work is done on US-89 'State Street' in Salt Lake. That runs from
U-151 '106th South' to U-209 '90th South'. There is some major work
on 90th South itself between I-15 and US-89 for approaches to the new
Real Salt Lake soccer stadium. The white spectator area covering is
visible from I-15.
Upcoming: Highland Highway (U-92) HOV flyover. Projected to start
this fall or winter. Will create a flyover ramp from I-15 to U-92,
the ramp will land and then go a short distance as a frontage road of
sorts alongside U-92. That due to the NIMBYs that don't understand
how road construction works and known best practices regarding
dedicated HOV entrances.
Extension starting from 8th North to American Fork west of I-15. Road
needed to handle traffic during upcoming I-15 reconstruction project.
Fully funded, may get some work started this year, but more likely
next. Same goes for US-89 from Orem 1960 North to U-180 (American
Fork 500 East). A third lane runs SB near the Lindon Wal-Mart, but
they will still need to add a lane northbound, and make the whole road
six lanes through this section, will necessitate replacing an old
underpass under the railroad at Downtown Pleasant Grove that has been
there since the 1920s.
Lehi 10th South: No news there, that's needed due to only one road
from Lehi to Saratoga Springs/Eagle Mountain. Likely to enter at
U-145/I-15 and may have the U-145 number even.
