IMO, it's kinda tough to maintain even 30 MPH when you're dealing with
a curve every 180 feet (on average).
IMHO US 441 north of Knoxville and all of US 129 in Tennessee and North Carolina
ought to be decommissioned as US routes. They carry no thru traffic and really
aren't very fast or modern routes.
Agree on 441, partially disagree on 129. 129 is a major highway
between Maryville and Knoxville and is on the NHS, and thus IMO a U.S.
route is appropriate (though it doesn't necessarily have to be 129).
Where, exactly, does the ARC corridor designated GA 515 end to the east? At the
US 76/US 23 intersection? US 76 is a pleasant drive across north Georgia, at
least from Blairsville west to the Ringgold area.
GA 515 turns north and follows GA 17 to the GA/NC state line.
Approaching darkness precluded me from going further south into Alabama on US
11, then heading back north and hitting US 72 and following it to the east to
clinch it in Tennessee, but I did get some photos of the intersection of Main
and Broad where US 76 and US 72 both end, both while multiplexed with US 41.
Many of my downtown Chattanooga photos didn't turn out as I had hoped because of
the darkness.
Actually, US 76 no longer ends at Main and Broad. A couple years ago,
TDOT and AASHTO approved a change in US 76 to where it now ends at
M.L.K. and Market (same location where US 127 officially ends). Of
course, Tennessee city signage being what it is, it's hard to pick out
where U.S. routes follow to begin with.
US 11/64 has two multiplexes with US 41. The one with US 72 involved is a "wrong
way" where north on 11 is south on 41, and vice versa. The short one with US 76
involved has both 11 and 41 going the same direction at the same time.
That second one is a recent change too. US 11/64 used to follow Broad
St into downtown, then the McCallie Ave/Bailey Ave one-way pair east
out of downtown. The city wanted to turn McCallie and Bailey back
into 2-way roads, so 11/64 got rerouted onto 20th St, 23rd St, and
Dodds Ave (the last of which has that second 11/41/64 triplex).
