Last month, I was interviewed by the South Hills News Record (a
Suburban Pittsburgh Weekly) on how various roads in around the South
Hills of Pittsburgh got their name. (Specifically, the Saw Mill Run
and Clairton Blvd. pieces of PA 51.)

The article ran in the July 24th Paper and includes tidbits on
Brownsville Road, Streets Run Road, among others.

The story is here:http://yoursouthhills.com/southhillsrecord/article/whats-name

Adam,

After seeing this post I was reminded of an old map snippet I saw on
Google some months ago, it dated from the late 1920's. It was cut off
and did not show south enough to include any of the Saw Mill valley or
Library Road, but it showed PA 51 and 88 coming in via Brownsville
Road, South 18th to Carson Street, across the Smithfield Street
Bridge, left on Blvd of the Allies, with 51 going back across the
Point Bridge to Carson to the West End and 88 continuing across the
Manchester Bridge to Allegheny Ave to California Ave. The Liberty
tunnels and a very undeveloped Dormont appeared on the map, but no Saw
Mill Run Bl and no West End Bridge, there was no Blvd of the Allies
past Grant and US 22-30 was via Bigelow Blvd also labeled Lincoln
Highway to 7th and Liberty.

I was very much curios how PA 88 would get from Library Rd to
Brownsville in Mt Oliver. Any thoughts?
