Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is mobilizing its store managers and department supervisors around the country to warn that if Democrats win power in November, they'll likely change federal law to make it easier for workers to unionize companies -- including Wal-Mart.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart store managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if stores were to be unionized.

According to about a dozen Wal-Mart employees who attended such meetings in seven states, Wal-Mart executives claim that employees at unionized stores would have to pay hefty union dues while getting nothing in return, and may have to go on strike without compensation. Also, unionization could mean fewer jobs as labor costs rise.
Walmart has a history of exploiting its employees, breaking employment
law and hiring companies that have been known to violate immigration
law. If there are any employees in the USA who need labor union
protection, the employees of Walmart are such a group.
And the unions have a history of overselling their abilities to protect to potential members and then not delivering. They also have a history of fraud, embezzlement and shady dealings with pension funds and union dues. They also have a history of CYA and screw the members when things start going sour for the members. They urge their leadership and rank and file to vote Democrat.

How is it any different?
Unions have been very good for much of their history. Yes, some were
corrupt, just as some companies are corrupt. The fact that there are
some corrupt companies has not persuaded us to destroy all corporations
or made it nearly impossible to form a new corporation. The government
has changed its attitude about labor and the weakness of labor unions in
this country has led to the stagnation of income for the lowest three
quartiles of employees in this country. Anyone who does not make more
than three out of four people in this country hurts himself by trying to
weaken unions rather than trying to reform the ones who need it.

Union busting never helps employees.
BTW, I couldn't help but notice you changed the subject and never answered my question.

How are unions urging their leadership and rank and file to vote Democrat any different than Wal-mart urging its leadership to vote Republican?
The circumstances imply that Walmart actually broke the law by requiring
hourly labor to listen to the pitch. Yes, the law is arcane, but Walmart
has the duty to know the law and past history tells us that they
intentionally broke it.
Where does it say the hourly workers were required to attend hourly meetings? It says store managers and department heads who were then supposed to urge the hourly employees to vote a particular way. No different than Union leaders sending members to my house urging me to vote a particular way, or using union money to send mailings and make phone calls to the rank and file to support a candidate who is sympathetic to organized labor.
Federal election rules permit companies to advocate for specific
political candidates to its executives, stockholders and salaried
managers, but not to hourly employees. While store managers are on
salary, department supervisors are hourly workers.
That was a quote from the WSJ article.
Also from that very same paragraph:

Wal-Mart may be walking a fine legal line by holding meetings with its store department heads that link politics with a strong antiunion message.

Sounds like it maybe questionable, but far from clearly broken as you assert.

So back to my question...

How are unions urging their leadership and rank and file to vote Democrat any different than Wal-mart urging its leadership to vote Republican?
And you STILL never answered my question! Since I've asked it three times and you have consistently changed the subject or ignored the question should I assume you don't have a response that would support your position?
The law is written as the law is written.
That's right. And I'd wager that Wal-Mart consulted with their attorneys (who I bet are a lot better educated and well verse in the law than you are) and determined that no law would be broken. But that doesn't stop you from deciding how you want the law to be intended.

And you don't have an answer to my question that would be favorable to your position. Your silence speaks volumes.

If, as the article tells us, they had hourly employees (that includes
supervisors) they violated the law. They may be able to afford good
lawyers, but they have a history of ignoring their advice.

It's been a few years since I had to deal with it but when I had to deal with unionization whether they were hourly employees didn't determine it. The scope of their position and supervision of employees did.

Even though he's dead it makes about much sense
to vote for him as it does for the choices
that we have who are living. At least he's not
going change his position on anything.
