North Star Highways on Flickr. (I-35W collapse and surrounding roadways)

Over the long weekend I decided to try out Flickr. Over the past year I
haven't done much with North Star Highways, in part because of the severe
lack of space (15MB per account doesn't go very far these days) as well as
the time to process photos and create web pages. Meanwhile, though I've been
taking hundreds of road pictures, mostly of the I-35W surroundings - there
was a lot of interest here last fall about what the temprorary roadway
changes and traffic signs looked like - and major construction projects. I
sent Froggie two CD-Roms of these, but he hasn't had time to post them.

These photos are from two trips last fall. For now I could only post about a
third of the I-35W photos due to the 100 meg per month limit for free
accounts, but I might eventually get a pro account as it's a lot cheaper
than when I rented web space on Yahoo. I think there's a way to embed Fickr
images into web pages, so that might be a solution to the space problems for
the more permanent content on my html site. If I post more pictures it'll
proabably be fresh ones from this spring rather than ones I have from last
years construction season.

Also got a new digicam to test out, a Canon S5. I haven't found a DSLR yet
that really said buy me, but I missed not being able to use filters or
manual control so I got this to tide me over. I'm aware of the Canon
software hacks out there; I already tried it on my SD700 and it works sweet.
And a new hard drive to hold pictures. I paid less than half for a 500 gig
drive what I did for a 500 meg drive when I built my first computer. Isn't
progress wonderful.

... With the coming of digital photography I have become increasingly sensitive to the constructive criticism that some trip reports just have too many pictures, and none of the bad ones are weeded out, that said I realize there are folks who also take the "more pictures the better" attitude, so I'm going to do TWO trip reports for this trip one with no more than 20 pictures for the whole day all on one page that is for that day I'm calling this the limited pictures version and here's a link to it that said there is still the editorial decision as to WHICH 20 photos to feature, and I'll just have to take my best guess as to which ones I think are the best, or best illustrate the report. ...
