Seeking digital camera recommendations

I'm in the market for a smaller digital camera to complement and supplement my
bigger Minolta Dimage.

I want something that is pocket-sized and would be easy to carry around.

My only hard-and-fast requirement is that it use AA batteries and be reasonably
good at shooting road and sign photos on the move.

If features are similar, price will be the deciding factor in my purchase. I
already know that C. C. Slater uses a Samsung; I'm curious as to what other road
photographers use.

Yes, I'm spending my federal tax rebate a little early. Thank you GWB and
