What arrangement do you want to make for paying me that $1,000 bet on
CNN/I-35W coverage?

(a) You never agreed to make the bet.

Really? You're kidding. See:http://groups.google.com/group/misc.transport.road/msg/f2380fcdb21bf734

This is the exchange, quoted below:

Is there any new information about exactly what caused
the collapse?

There may be conjecture/"educated guesses", but I'd be surprised if the
investigation took less than 6 months or possibly a year.

And, more importantly, everyone has forgotten/doesn't care about it
now so it'll never make the mainstream news outlets.

Hardly. It will be news. There's just nothing to report at the moment.

Oh God, a sucker really is born every minute.

Really? When was your birthday?

Want to bet?

Sure.

When the "final" report comes along, I'll bet you that it's not even on the
front page of CNN.com.

The bet is $1,000

OK

You really don't understand media or how this works.

Close quote.

Tell me, what part of "OK" didn't you understand?

You proposed a $1,000 bet that the news of the final report wouldn't
even be on the front page of CNN.com. I didn't know why you'd risk
your money like that, since I had no doubt it would not only be there,
but indeed that it would be reported in some from by almost every new
outlet in America. You said "the bet is $1,000" and I said "OK."

What more do you need to resolve your statement (a)?

(b) I'm not so sure you won the bet.

Well, I did.

It was on the front page of CNN.com on Jan. 15, despite the Michigan
primary being held that day. It was the top link in the US News
portion of the home page.

I saved it, if you'd like me to email it to you. I mentioned it in the
thread here on mtr that day.

What more do you need to resolve your statement (b)?

I also saved the first 11 pages of Yahoo News search results that
showed the story of the NTSB report on the bridge failure to have been
carried not only by every major newspaper in the land (the Washington
Post broke it the day before) but that it was also carried by small
papers, TV stations and even podunk little radio stations.

As I said, there was never any doubt that this story was huge and that
the report would make a big splash. Maybe I just take ill-informed
criticism of media too personally.

So how would you like to arrange payment of the bet?- Hide quoted text -

Oh I aws looking at the wrong year for Archive.org anyway. It doesn't
look like any 2008 is acrchived yet.
