location of that cell phone to cell towers and ambulance, police, etc.
My question is that.. it seems that if a GPS receiver will embedd in a
cell phone.. that it could also easily embed in something the size of
an EZ-Pass transponder..
and my question is.. has this been done or is it being planned?

via the cell network. Since EZ Pass is a very localized
transmit/receive situation it would only work within a short distance of
the EZ Pass gate.
Just my two cents, right or wrong.

gantry can "approve" the transaction...
it means that other data likely could also be transmitted... correct?
so... if the EZPass had a gps.. then your lat/long could also be
transmitted.
so how would we know... ???
I think there is at least one way to tell and that is that.. (at least
in Va).. you can register EZPass to more than one vehicle...
that means that when the gantry detects your vehicle.. it still does
not know WHICH vehicle if you have more than one registered...
but this probably if going to go away.. if the gantries are also
"capturing" your license plate as you go through...
They do.
I don't know about EZPass but in CO, EXpress Toll transponders are
tied to a particular registered vehicle. Even at 70-75 or faster, the
cameras at the toll gantries read your plates and correspond them with
the transponder that was used. Last year, when some clown rear-ended
my car on my birthday, I went through two separate rental cars for the
six weeks mine was in the body shop. I had to re-notify EXpress Toll
of the new plates on the rentals on the rare occasions I had to use
E-470 or the I-25 HOT lanes.
I know OK Pike Pass is tied to the vehicle as well. For a while there were lots of trips between here and TX for us and the in-laws. I looked in to Pike Pass thinking it would be cheaper and easier. I thought we could send the tag back and forth depending on who was making the trip. But it requires the license plate info. And for one vehicle it wasn't worth it.
