Most folks probably realize that many new cell phones have minature
GPS receivers in them that allow the cell phones to transmit the
location of that cell phone to cell towers and ambulance, police, etc.
My question is that.. it seems that if a GPS receiver will embedd in a
cell phone.. that it could also easily embed in something the size of
an EZ-Pass transponder..
and my question is.. has this been done or is it being planned?
thanks
It's my understanding that the GPS info on cell phones is transmitted
via the cell network. Since EZ Pass is a very localized
transmit/receive situation it would only work within a short distance of
the EZ Pass gate.
Just my two cents, right or wrong.

correct... If the EZPass can transmit a code to the gantry so the
gantry can "approve" the transaction...
it means that other data likely could also be transmitted... correct?
so... if the EZPass had a gps.. then your lat/long could also be
transmitted.
so how would we know... ???
I think there is at least one way to tell and that is that.. (at least
in Va).. you can register EZPass to more than one vehicle...
that means that when the gantry detects your vehicle.. it still does
not know WHICH vehicle if you have more than one registered...
but this probably if going to go away.. if the gantries are also
"capturing" your license plate as you go through...
Wouldn't this be a marvelous tool for catching bad guys?
Wouldn't this be a very dangerous tool in the hands of a wrong person
or government?
