Why don't they just say I-88? Is the road marked as the "Reagan
Tollway"? Do people use that name more than I-88?

Traffic reporters in Boston use names for roads that haven't been named
that for years.

"Expressway" or "Southeast Expressway" is really I-93 south of Boston.
AFAIK, there are no signs anywhere using these names.

"128" between Canton and Braintree is really I-93. MA 128 has not been
on this stretch of road for at least ten years and there are no signs
indicating it as such.

I suppose these names identify a particular portion of the larger
highway, but it sounds odd to hear these ancient names for roads that
are not marked as such.

Then there are the words like "the split", "the gas tank", "the lane
drop", "the TV tower" and so on that only people who use the roads every
day would know. But I suppose that's the point of having traffic
reports at all, to serve daily commuters.
