Comrade, re read his site, him and Willinger are proposing to build
those long dead freeways at a cost of billions. They are dead for a
reason, and they are going to stay dead.

I wonder about anyone that would try to resurrect them when the
residents don't want them, and there is NO political suppost.


From reading these websites, it seems to me that Scott reports the
history behind some of the proposals, whereas Doug laments that these
projects were never done. I can't see anybody actually proposing that
most of these projects actually be resurrected. Doug points out that
the cancellation of the North Central Freeway was the main reason for
the current Springfield interchange and Woodrow Wilson Bridge
projects.

The one proposal, if any, that Doug and Scott seem to advocate is for
the Barney Circle connector. This project would cause no loss of
homes and would provide a missing connection between two highways that
are less than half a mile apart. The project could really reduce
street traffic in Capitol Hill and on New York Avenue. It provides
the needed movement from either Greenbelt, MD or New Carrolton, MD
(295 and 50 corridors) to Downtown DC and Northern Virginia without
passing through a single traffic light or adding more traffic on the
Beltway. If more radial highways were built in DC, the Beltway would
not be so crowded.

This area really needs improvement. Upgrade the RFK Access Road. Add
an exit from S 295 to Penn Ave west. Get the ramp to the 11th Street
bridge in place. Do something, DDOT!

THey did something. They closed another bridge in the area for 2
months making this connection even harder.
