I want to know how to communicate to drivers they need to stay in their

Austin is white knuckle driving at its best because everyone ends up in a
different lane from where they started.
Well, a fair number of dual turn lanes around here (LI, NY) are
getting dashed lines which continue the 'path' around the turn into
the corresponding cross street counterparts (virtual curved lanes!) -
seem to be of some help, albiet not perfect, of course. (I forgot the
correct terminology for these path indicating lines).
That's been done for a long time in Florida where dual left turn lanes
are very common. I noticed last year in Ft. Lauderdale (Broward
Boulevard and Federal Highway), that they took that concept a step
further and used decorative paving blocks within the intersection to
permanently delineate the turning lanes. Besides being highly visible,
the blocks will never need repainting. They also make the intersection
look really pretty!
