Wasn't this intersection just rebuilt within the past decade or so?
Probably not that particular overpass (580 EB from 80 EB, overcrossing
880 SB from 80WB). Ramps were added a while ago for 880 NB to 80 EB,
and HOV ramps from the Bay Bridge to/from 80 EB/WB. Other ramps to the
west were added when 880 was rebuilt.
Can we hope for a new span in a few months, as when "the 10" was
repaired after Northridge? Or ConnDOT's speedy fix of the melted I-95
bridge in Bridgeport?
580 and 24 commuters will be screwed for a while. CA 4 and I-238 will
probably shoulder more traffic. If only the 880/980 interchange were
complete; all detour traffic could stay on the freeways.
