mythbusters vs. red light cameras

Jamie and Adam of the discovery channel show took on the challenge of proving whether or not certain myths about the red light cameras worked or not.

They hired the guy who owned the company and had him set up his equipment at the Alameda test site.

First up were the various items you can purchase to put on your license plate. So called vision blockers and various sprays. Each one was clearly shown that the camera still captured the plate.

Moving on to the speed myth they used a standard car and even at 100mph, the camera was still tripped.
To try even faster speeds, they went to a race track but were only able to obtain a maximum speed of nearly 130mph. Like duh, a Corvette, or a Mclaren would easily top that without even trying hard.

Then there was a question about birds tripping the camera. With the aid of trained hawks, they soon found out that even that was possible. The birds were clocked at 40mph in flight.

But Jamie had the best idea. To avoid capture by the camera, do it James Bond style. Flip the license plate. But don't use a valid plate as that will cost you more than the RLC tiicket.

Radar was invented to detect airplanes in flight. Knowing that planes travel at well over 300 mph easily, there is no legally produced ground vehicle that can go that fast.

My idea is simple. Put the license plate anywhere but where it normally goes. As this is where the RLC is positioned to aim. As long as the plate is visible from the rear, that satisfies the law.

What you really need to do is, find the camera box then spray paint over the lens.
