H.B., who HAS driven the entire length of US 19E and wouldn't cry if 19W was
decommissioned.

I think a trip on 19W would be worth your time. I've driven it twice,
once on a trip to drive the whole US 19E/W loop, and again last month
on a trip down old US 23. The NC section is very twisty, but fairly
level. ISTR the approach to the TN line wasn't too bad, but the
descent north from there was more in character for a gap crossing.
Going the other direction one day may change my mind, though.

Agreed about eliminating 19W, and I don't know that it would be missed
in the Tri-Cities. In my short time here, I don't think I've ever
heard the Bristol-Johnson City road called US 19/US 19W (always US
11E), or the Johnson City-Asheville road 19W (always I-26 or US 23).
Can't say what the reaction south of Johnson City would be though. :)

While I was at it, I'd also have plans for US 19 in Abingdon and
Bristol, but I don't want to overdo my first post. :)
