for all the issues that need fixing, i'd really to see
these addressed:
1) GA400S->I-85S -- 3 lanes down 400, you drop one @
Sidney Marcus right before 85, then you force the traffic
to one, which you also drop shortly thereafter on 85. And
then you have the people who were barreling down 85 who
suddenly have a bunch of cars going substantially slower
right in front of them. Constantly jams up because of
that... they're trying to force too many cars into too
little space too quickly. It's awful.
I've experienced that myself and I agree that it is a design flaw that
desperately needs to be fixed.
2) the whole GA400/Sidney Marcus thing -- gotta get on
Sidney Marcus if you want to go GA400S->I-85N, and this
can get quite jammed. And also, the way GA13 northbound
comes to a stop light and dumps you onto SM for a bit to
get onto GA400N. I'd like to see them add some flyover a
bit south of here that would carry you across I-85 and put
you on 400 near the ramps.
The Georgia DOT has proposed new flyover bridges that will link I-85
South to GA 400 Northbound and GA 400 South directly to I-85 North, but
it's been a few years since I've seen anything else on it. The
Governor's "Fast Forward" program for improvements both in Metro
Atlanta and statewide do not seem to include this. :(
GA13 is the best way north out of midtown bar none if
you're headed up 400, except for this.... otherwise in
midtown if you want to hit 400N, you've got to go way
south to the Linden Ave onramp, & that traffic down Spring
St. can be awful.. would be nice to have uninterrupted
freeway north from the Peachtree/W. Peachtree cross. No
Connector, no I-85.
3) the onramp from GA13 ->I-85SB, the offramp to I-75NB,
and the 10th/14th/17th Streets exit are way too close
together... you have the ones who just got on trying to
get over & out of the way of the drivers trying to edge
over for I-75NB or the very busy 10th/14th/17th exit,
which comes up a mere 1/4 mile later. So there's lots of
bunching, sudden lane changes, & weaving here.
these are just the three things that consistently annoy
the hell out of me... i don't mind slow traffic so much as
the nearly constant near-collisions at # 1 and #3.
