Would there have been a logical renumbering for US-25E?
Well actually US 25E is a pretty good candidate for mainline US 25
because US 25W has pretty much been trumped by interstates. US 25W
could be easily downgraded to a state highway or even an extension of
US 441 north of Lake City, but don't expect ME to vouch for it. I
personally see no problem with the directional suffices and never will.
In fact, I have my share of photos of the 70S's and 25E's and 11W's ;)
