Re: Route Numbers Across Borders

The US highways that cross the border into British Columbia were
numbered by British Columbia to match their American counterparts.

I-5 (formerly US 99) becomes BC 99 (freeway into Richmond, then street
through Vancouver, up to Whistler and beyond)
US 97 becomes BC 97 (Okanagan, Cariboo, BC portion of Alaska Highway)
US 395 becomes BC 395 (for the VERY short duration of its BC
existence).
US 95 becomes BC 95 (Carries on to meet TC 1 at Golden)
US 93 becomes BC 93 (Crosses into AB, goes between Jasper and Banff)

Indeed, BC 97 goes north all the way to the Yukon border. And had Yukon
been willing to renumber its portion of the Alaska Highway as YT 97,
Alaska had conditional AASTHO approval in the 1960s to renumber its
portion (plus the Richardson Highway from Delta Junction to Fairbanks)
as US 97.
