Re: Intersection of NY 24 (CR 94) and CR 51 in Riverhead, NY

That interchange is a bit peculiar for Long Island - it functions as an
at-grade traffic circle, with the (south)eastbound lanes of SR 24/CR 94
passing through the center. The bottom half of the circle functions as
a turn-around loop. Recently the pavement markings at this interchange
were redone so that SR 24/CR 94 (north)westbound has a free through
lane on the right, while the former left through lane is a left turn
lane (before you were just expected to merge into the loop ramp and
stop abruptly at the stop sign at EB 24/94). This makes turning left
off of northbound CR 51 easier, as the turning lane now has its own
ramp in what used to be the left lane of westbound 24/94. See the link

24/94 ("Nugent Drive") is particularly interesting in this area, as it
has 3 separate circular interchanges in a row, all of which function
differently. There's this one, in addition to the one just west at CR
94A (Center Drive North, see link below), in which all traffic turns
right off of or onto 24/94 Westbound and then has to cross over to/from
24/94 Eastbound, as well as the one just east, the 5-leg traffic circle
between 24/94, CR 63, Peconic Street, and CR 104. Interesting
roadgeeking area.

Unfortunately, this interchange is about 10' into a no photo area on
the Aerial section. Darn!
