Interstates that may have been poorly routed (Long)

* I-70 across MO: maybe it would have been better along US 50 instead
of US 40? Can't find the population for Jefferson City back in the
50's but I thought it was larger than Columbia back then. Plus it
would have served Whiteman AFB and the decent sized towns of Sedalia
and Warrensburg.
* I-55 in IL: Should not have the 20 mile multiplex with I-70. I
would have had it follow IL 3 or IL 203 to Alton, then head to
Carlinville and follow IL 4 to Springfield. It could have been routed
through/barely east of Peoria also on its way to Chicago
* I-64 across IL: should have followed IL 161 after splitting from US
50 and gone closer to Centralia. It could have then multiplexed with
I-57 down to the current alignment at Mt. Vernon or angled down to
follow IL 15/64 to Louisville.
* I-24 in IL: Since it hasn't made it to St. Louis yet, I consider it
poorly routed. It would have been better terminating at I-55 in Cape
Girardeau. The desire of Cape Girardeau to have I-66 cross on the new
bridge seems to be another sign that I-24 was not put on the best
alignment.
* I-39 in IL: would have been better as a modification of the once
proposed I-53 referenced on Kurumi's site. I would have had it start
on the north side of Springfield, then follow IL 29 to I-180, then sort
of follow IL 26 and IL 2 into Rockford.
I-57: should have gone all the way to Memphis. Instead of angling
west at the current split with I-24, it would stay along IL 37, cross
the Ohio, then go south to Union City TN where it would follow US 51
into Memphis.
I-72: should have gone south of Chambana and merged with I-74 east of
town, resembling the setup of freeways around Grand Rapids, MI.
I-69 in IN: Since it bypasses almost every major town in IN anyway, it
should have stayed along IN 37 to Marion. Anderson and Muncie could
have been served by an I-x69, a new route from Indy to I-75 at Lima en
route to Toledo or to I-71 at Mansfield en route to Cleveland.
