The storm is one of the worst that I can remember in nearly seven
years here. There's all sorts of flooding in Sonoma, Marin, Napa,
and Solano counties. A levee broke in Novato, in a place where
flooding is normally rare. Caltrans is reporting flooding on many
freeways and routes. Even here in Oakland, some of the neighbors
have the chain saws going this morning, and the winds from the storm ripped my telephone and cable service connection off the
house (but, miraculously, they're still connected for now, at least
until a big truck rumbles down the street). Lake Merritt is
reportedly overflowing as well.
Some rainfall totals for the last 24 hrs, as reported by SFGate.com (sourced from NWS):
Santa Rosa 4.07 St Helena 7.08 Petaluma 4.52 SFO 2.37 Oakland Airport 2.11 Ben Lomond 4.71
That St. Helena number is amazing. No wonder the Napa River is at flood stage - 30 feet at the moment, 5 ft above flood stage.
