WisDOT has recently put up a website for the US 10 expansion between

This opens the door for some other changes as well . . .

The east-west segment of Wis 73 (one of two in this area, actually)
could easily be removed with an extension of Wis 66 to the west to
cover it.

Talking with a WisDOT guy at a PIM on this past spring (I posted the nitty-gritty in here within a day or so), I suggested the idea of this County 'P' becoming WI 161 after the US 10 freeway east of I-39 is completed in the mid-late 2010s, as is now planned, and he did not discount that possibility. When that east end is rerouted and the current surface street US 10 becomes an eastward extension of WI 161, having WI 66 cross over on I-39 as it is now planned to do to continue westward through the City of Stevens Point on old US 10 will look totally absurd.

Existing Wis 97 would become Wis 80, a logical northward extension of
that route.

The former north-south Marshfield city street part of WI 13 is no longer a state highway and WisDOT has no intention of taking it back. It looks like a 'natural' on the map to me, too, but it is a discontinuity in the syatem.

Heck, as this part of US 10 is upgraded, I fully expect to see a push to eliminate that two section offset in US 10 at the south edge of Marshfield, even further lessening the need for WI 80 from there to WI 73 to be a state highway at all. With WI 13 no longer on that road, most of that through traffic will be gone, too.

With Stevens Point no longer being in the way and with that I-94 'corner cut' between Osseo and Elk Mound, US 10 will be a _much more attractive_ routing for traffic between the Appleton/Oshkosh/el al area and the MStP metro area compared with WI 29 and will see big increases in traffic. Stay tuned.

Existing Wis 73 from the JCT of Wis 95 and new Wis 66 would become Wis
97.

Wis 95 to the west could become Wis 66, leaving 95 to be used
elsewhere in the state if that designation were extended beyond I-94.

This does three things:

it eliminates a long east-west portion of a signed north-south route
(Wis 73).

it allows the Wis 80 corridor to connect to Wis 29 as one continuous
marked route.

it allows the development of Wis 66 as a single east-west corridor
between Wisconsin Rapids and I-94 to serve as an alternate to Wis 54.

Substitute 'WI 161' for 'WI 66' here and that might work.

We'll see.
