I'd agree with that, but it also seems that the people who actually
attain power - on both sides of the table - have been less and less
moderate, and end up falling on the radical end of their political
orientation.

I would like to think that you're right, although I'd prefer to use the
term "Goldwater Republican," but lately it seems to be that the country
actually is very polarized between the religious right and the neocons
(which seem to have some crossover between the two) and the far, far
left (who don't have any common ground with either of the two far-right
factions.)

Certainly. However, since Perot couldn't really rally any significant
numbers to him, it seems unlikely. I'm disgregarding Nader as I don't
see him ever building a significant power base, nor do I consider him a
viable middle-of-the-road candidate.
