Hateful Freedom?
As the campaign to abolish the Massachusetts state income tax moves
ahead, the redistributionist, collectivist crowd is losing its
marbles. The idea of not being able to steal a chunk of everyone's
paycheck looks like the end of the world to them. (Actually, maybe it
IS the end of the world to them.) But there was one quote from a story
about it that was downright hilarious:
"We all need, as Democrats, to stand together and fight back this
hateful attempt to do away with the income tax." [AFL-CIO President,
Robert Haynes]
So much utter lunacy in one sentence, I hardly know where to begin.
First of all, "fight back"?? All Democrat voters need to "fight back"
against someone trying to PREVENT them from being robbed? If only Mr.
Haynes were alive two hundred years ago: "Us negroes have to fight
back against this hateful attempt to do away with slavery!" Why should
the victims of extortion "stand together," united in their
enslavement, to RESIST their own freedom and economic prosperity? Just
how stupid are union members? (Pretty darn stupid, considering who
their President is.)
And last, but by no means least: "HATEFUL"??!! Don't these cliche
morons have anything better than that? Wanting lower or fewer taxes is
"hateful"? (I seem to recall another Democrat a while back claiming
that "Let's cut taxes" is the new racism.) The following is a brief
excerpt from my book, "How To Be a Successful Tyrant" (http://
www.tyrantbook.com ):
-------
Impugning Motives
In addition to belittling the opinions of your opponents, be sure also
to frequently demonize those who hold those opinions. The moment you
question people's motives, they will almost always shift to defending
themselves instead of arguing their original point.
Someone who opposes your attempts to become an enforced "charity"
monopoly (via forced wealth redistribution) should be accused of
wanting the poor to starve. Those who oppose your take-over of the
health care industry should be accused of not caring about people who
get sick. Those who oppose peasant disarmament should be
accused of not being concerned about crime. Those who don't want to
be extorted by you should be portrayed as "greedy" and not wanting to
pay their "fair share."
If the average peasant has to choose between "free goodies for
all!" (your message) and an academic explanation of the long-term
benefits of free market economics, he will almost always choose free
stuff. When the peasants view you as an all-powerful Santa Claus,
they will hate anyone who attempts to rid them of their childish
delusion.
-------
I think Mr. Haynes has been reading my book, but he did a rotten job
of being an effective tyrant. Calling it "hateful" to want to keep
what you earn is just plain idiotic. Is that the best the commies
(wearing the label "union") can do? Again, we'll have to wait and see
if the union folk in Massachusetts, or the rest of the people there,
are stupid enough to fall for it. I can just picture a horde of union
morons rejoicing when they manage to preserve their own ongoing
enslavement by keeping the state income tax in place.
