I have a question about which version of Taxcut software would be the most
economical for filing federal plus multiple states on paper only.

The Premium + State + E-file may have features I'd be paying for but not
using.
Also, I need to file schedule C (sole proprietorship business), so Basic
is
out of the picture.

Are you sure? I'm not familiar with TaxCut, but the basic version of the
other software I've seen prepares Schedule C.

On the Premium + State, the small print says: "** E-file available for one
state only per federal return with TaxCut. For additional states, printing
and mailing your state return is required."

The states "piggyback" on the Federal e-file, and that process accomodates
only one state return. All others must be filed on paper.

Has anyone been able to file (on paper) multiple states with this version
of
Taxcut? Last year it was necessary to buy a separate program for each
individual state, which gets expensive if you had income in 16 states.

Each state requires its own program. AFAIK both TaxCut and TurboTax charge
you for each state program.

Many states allow you to file online through their websites. That's how I
file my MD return.

You might also check out www.taxact.com. IIRC they offer all states for a
set price.
