Keep pumping out your trash Paul Thomas,
I find it quite interesting that you want to classify factual information
as "trash" just because it doesn't agree with your errant beliefs.
As far as the budgets go, how do you expect the agencies to attract and
retain good people if their wages and benefits don't keep up with the
private sector?
If the great benefits in government ( including pensions that don't
evaporate) and big pay did attract good & competent people, I would have to
agree with you Paul. But is that what happens? Or is the hiring controlled
by cronyism, "loyalty" (i.e. "team players"), military service, and many
other non-performance reasons - while competency comes last? Is the big pay
boost to keep competent, drug free, honest workers - or a reward for
political connections? Seems like folks at the government troth want all the
pay they might get in the "private sector," with more days off than in the
"private sector." They get secure pensions that hardly exist in the "private
sector" any more, and a 40-hour work weeks that often don't add up to 40
hours. Meanwhile, in the "private sector" everyone is now a "professional,"
meaning they can be pushed for many more hours than 40-a-week for 40-hours
pay (no "unprofessional" overtime pay), right up until the employee burns
out. Burn-outs simply get replaced. The raises in government should be for
what it takes to hire and keep competent workers, and that means doing away
with union forces that make it difficult to fire those who can't or won't
perform (just as it is in the real world).
