would be best handled with an attached statement, rather than waiting
until the IRS comes asking questions.
Considering that the IRS will ignore your attached statement unless it gets
to the point that a human being is evaluating the return, at which point
they're going to want some proof beyond "I say so," I say save the paper and
give them only what they ask for.
