In Farm Country's Boom, Hints of a Bubble
This is Good News. People who make real things, especially
real things that can be sold to foreigners, as opposed to
people who shuffle paper, including paper (and electronic)
money, are doing well. The FIRE (finance, insurance, real
estate) economy is on its ass.

About damned time, too...

County governments are touting the benefits of keeping costs
down and getting fresh food. Local farmers are getting a lot of play
in newspapers as new 'framer's markets' are being set up.

I've read of some areas where a bunch of towns folk get together in a
co-operative and essentially buy the farmers output. The farmer gets
X bucks a week, he delivers up Y pounds of high quality produce.
Everybody seems happy with the deal. Farmer has his stuff sold before
it's grown and a reliable income, city folk get good fresh food.

Co-ops were popular during the 'back to the earth' movement in the
1970-80s. A few survive. At that time some growers also delivered
to customers.

Today I note more interest in direct sales though county/city
encouraged markets and by going to the farms.

Something new is grocery chain stores buying locally. I think
it has public appeal.

I grow some vegetables, bake bread and buy local eggs, sausage
and beef.

In some if not most areas of the country, all basic foods could
be provided locally.

Next we need to bring power generation and distribution back to the
local jurisdictions. A bit more expensive due to capital outlay but
but cheaper in the long run and much more dependable.
