I'm at the tail end of the line in the power grid. I, and my neighbors
are the first to lose power and the last to get restored in an outage.
I cringe with every storm.
My idea is to install another breaker box and reroute a few lighting
circuits, TV, phone and a room air conditioner. During an outage I
would throw the breaker in the main box that feeds the secondary as to
isolate it then fire up the generator and feed the secondary box. I'm
guessing that 5kw will do the job. I'd like to run it on natural gas.
Is there a good website that focuses on such projects?
Phones are run on their own power thru the lines, unless you have a
cordless which is stupid for emergencies.
Any electronic phone particularly those which require a 120VAC
connection.
emergencies, can be stuck in a spare room or something.
