No, we are not in the midst of TEOTWAWKI. The stores are still full
of food and merchandise. Prices for food and fuel are higher, but
nothing at all like hyper-inflation. Unemployment is slightly higher.
But only slightly higher.
One of the skills you'll need to be able to survive (this IS
misc.survivalism) is the ability to perceive reality. The reality in
the U.S. and the rest of the developed world (Europe, Japan, etc.) is
that things are getting a little worse, but nothing even remotely like
the long-feared EOTWAWKI. And in the BRIC countries, etc., things are
getting very much better, at a rapid rate.
I believe there are "seeds of destruction" planted in the soil of the
U.S. economy -- by environmentalist whackos, labor union goons,
tax-and-spend Democrats, ambitious government regulators and
bureaucrats, and the impossible Federal unfunded liabilities of
something over 70 trillion dollars -- but they haven't germinated, let
alone emerged. They are, so far, down there waiting for the right
conditions.
The sky may very well fall one of these days, but it isn't falling
now. Going around saying it is only makes a person look ridiculous.
funny, but there's an awful lot of people who actually have a clue who
dont' agree with you.
It's Official: The Crash of the U.S. Economy has begun

It's official. Mark your calendars. The crash of the U.S. economy has
begun.
The "crash" of the U.S. economy??? No, whoever said that does not have
a clue. That crash may very well occur, and occur fairly soon, but it
obviously has not begun. Jeesh -- just go out into the world, into the
marketplace, out on the streets, and see what's really happening. If
you do that, and still think things have already started to crumble,
you're blind to reality.
(rest snipped)
Depends on your threshold. The DOW has officially slipped into a Bear
market by declining 20% from recent highs, inflation is beginning to
roar, the real estate fiasco hasn't even peaked, joblessness is growing
(you don't believe official numbers, do you?), the dollar is sinking like
a rock against foreign currencies,
All that was true during the 70s -- worse, really -- and yet the economy
did not crumble. It went into a severe recession. Oddly enough, that
recession had absolutely no effect on me. It had no effect on millions of
other Americans. It was not the beginning of TEOTWAWKI.
our manufacturing base has been
outsourced to asia and latin america,
Some of it has, but we still manufacture quite a bit in the U.S.
and we're locked into two endless,
illegal, wars. Three if you believe Bush is about to attack Iran.
How can we be locked into a war that has yet to start???
Reports of $70,000,000,0000,000,000.00 in unsecured debt coming due in
the next few years, enormous trade imbalances, enormous overspending,
crumbling infrastructure...
Many people would think that the U.S. Economy is indeed beginning to
crumble.
The OP said "crash of the U.S. economy has begun." It has not. Is the
U.S. economy showing definite signs of weakness? You bet your ass it is.
It's even in a mild recession, despite government lies to the contrary.
Might that turn into a severe recession, or even a depression? Of course.
Has the crash, TEOTWAWKI, TSHTF, whatever you want to call it, started
already? No.
Nope, the real estate market wasn't mortally wounded or the nation nearly
so deep in debt.
I was in Fresno Tuesday (Central California city, pop. over 400,000,
based mainly on agriculture) and the traffic was as heavy as ever.
Business was brisk. Things were humming along. Crash? Nowhere to be
found. Sorry, but not yet. Soon? Perhaps. Now? No.
You're smarter than that. America is not uniform. Does Fresno have any
manufacturing, construction, assembly? Anything other than agriculture?
Fresno does not represent middle America.
