are pretty far left wing.
My perception is born out by the statistics of Democrats to Republicans:
Anthropology profs are 21.1 Demos to 1 Republican
Law and Philosophy are 9.1 Demos to 1 Republican
History profs are 8.5 to 1
Political scientist are 5.6 to 1. (1)
Currently, the only options for the non-communist prospective student are
universities like Brigham Young, Bob Jones, or Oral Roberts Universities.
Needless to say, it's a Hobson's choice: you can choose your
indoctrination, but you must choose an indoctrination - either rat ***
communist, or over the top Creationist.
Now, rather than curse the darkness, like the liberals do when they find
that Conservatives have been pushed out of the newspapers, pushed out of
television, and have taken refuge in AM talk radio; I propose we light a
candle. How about a true liberal arts college - no indoctrination allowed.
The way I'd do it is with very little start up money; just need land and a
few tools; sort of like how the first universities were created. The
students would provide the labor to build buildings, grow crops, make
books, and graduates would teach undergraduates. The initial faculty
would be very small - it would have to be as there are very few people out
there with a true liberal arts education. Since most other universities do
not produce an educated student, new faculty would have to be recruited
from the students.
The curriculum would be the TRUE seven liberal arts.

First, "Democrats" are hardly "left wing," except as compared with
"Republicans."
Democrats believe in socialist redistribution of wealth and in control of
the means of production, which is socialist/communist. Socialist do not
believe in the rights of the individual, and they take from those
according to their ability, and give to those according to their need,
according to Karl Marx.
Since the government of the United States is limited, and respects the
rights of individual property, these socialist are, by definition, against
the government. Those who are against the government are left wing.
When the government is overthrown, our constitution destroyed, and a
socialist dicatorship (run by the Democrats) is installed, then I will be
against the government (leftist) and you can be on the right wing.
There are some actual left wing (Socialist) professors
out there, and some right wingers, as well. I've had both. But,
overall, the faculty at most Universities is merely progressive,
progress being what University is all about...
I gave the stats. Your anecdotal claims otherwise are dismissed.
"Progressive" is just another name for communist, as communist became
known for their abuse of human rights and murder, then they declared
themselves to be "liberals", but people caught on to that name as well, so
now they call themselves "progressives". Same crimes, but the names were
changed to protect the guilty.
I have no idea what you are on about talking about "communist."
Certainly, none of my professors, over 30+ years of college work, has
been apparently communist. (Yes, I know you just cannot help but call
people names, even when you are otherwise serious)
It would appear that the only communist you would recognized would be a
big C Communist party member. Communist don't do that anymore; they've
learned not to be so blatant. Now they join the Democrat party. However,
socialist programs are still socialist programs, and they are
philosophical communist if not party members. John Kerry is one example;
he was very careful NOT to join the Communist Party even though he served
as spokesman for the communist run front group, Vietnam Veterans Against
the War.
You DEFINE the choice as Hobsian; the choice is whether to get an
education or not. Sticking your head in the sand is hardly a choice for
education.
No, I said the choice was to be indoctrinated. You can choose a religious
indoctrination, or a communist indoctrination, but indoctrination is the
choice. That is, by definition, a Hobsian choice.
Being indoctrinated has nothing to do with education. Education is
learning how to think; indoctrination is learning what to think.
Indoctrination is like training a dog; the dog doesn't think, he just
rolls over and collects his treat. The dog doesn't decide that he has good
reason to roll over and decide when to roll over.
Your idea of a new college sounds good; the chance that you actually
mean it, and are serious about a true liberal arts education, based on
your posts here, approaches zero. I mean, just look at your canard
about newspapers and television! What you usually desire is a harsh
indoctrination into Republicanism, NeoConservatism, Fascism, and any
other "-ism" that projects your fear of anything "other."
Your gibber is noted, and disregarded.
The simple fact is, anyone who has a true liberal arts education and
studies socialism, feudalism and the works of the founding fathers will
reject your socialist/communist ideas as the slavery of man, little
different than feudalism, and reach the conclusion that liberty is the
only fit way for man to be governed.
But, whatever your actual goal, good luck. It certainly would be.
educational to see what you came up with.
