While I suspect like most green solutinos this one won't pan out, it

If these work, and don't break down every other week, they could be a
very usefull additon to
energy generation.

Interesting, but I see more drawbacks than advantages. A little snow or
ice will bind those gears, as will a spot of bird poop or a dry leaf or
a piece of paper. Dust will accumulate on the gear teeth, causing them
to grind each other and spoil the clearance, which will send efficiency
way down.
I take it the power goes to one end of the unit, but the parts are all
identical. So either the ones closest to the generator are
underengineered or the ones farthest away are overengineered. That may
be no issue in practice, but it's clumsy at least. It also means that
they won't wear out at the same rate- you'd have to replace them all
when the one that gets worked hardest is past use or you'd get
accelerated wear of the new units.
Might be good for oiling your snake, I just don't believe it's a
worthwhile thing for making useful electricity.

As an engineer I must admit that I have serious doubts about this
technology.
But then I didn't think VCRs or home PCs would catch on.
If they can work out the bugs, the micro turbines could be very nice
for hunting/
weekend getaway cabins.
I have friends that can believe we can exist comfortable on about
250W.
Of course we don't have a power sucking plasma screen TV etc.
In the summer life without Air Conditioning would simply suck. But we
survived
before we had AC and when driving around we seldom use it in the car
because
I am such a tight wad.
This technology will either improve and be usefull or like sterling
engines remain
a laboratory curisity. I would like to get my hands on the array that
is shown in
the link I gave. I wonder what type generator they are using. Simple
DC motor,
or an alternator. I bet the prototypes are using DC motors, which is a
big limitation
in my mind.
