Success at last!!!

I don't know if the earlier reinstall of XP did it, or the reorganizing
of the boot order, or I just got lucky this time.
In any case, when Win XP under new install tried to boot from its CD,
is succeeded :-)

Deleted all partitions.
Did full format.
Now will spend next few days reinstalling all my software.
