First of all, my condolences to all the families affected, American and
Iraqi alike.

With that said, this incident will result with more individuals turning
against the Americans who are trying to help than any propaganda that
the enemy might have created.

The next time you hear of another American soldier killed, bear in mind
it could easily be for revenge for this incident.

Would it be justified? Well, if was your daughter, sister, mother that
was raped and killed, what would you do? And if the rest of the people
were your family members, would you be motivated to seek justice?

Americans don't wear white hats ...and never did.

Most of them do wear white hats. It's the rotten apples that give
critics a free propaganda point. They are the criminal stock that
should be punished. And the system DID work - the scum is in court
and it's being done in public. Don't miss the 9,999 good ones while
dwelling on the 1 criminal.

I'm in no way supporting our being in Iraq. That's a political issue
I'll lay at the feet of the Presidents war cabinet. But, I know a few
lowly soldiers that took tours in Iraq and they all have the highest
ideals.

Dollars to donuts he claims some sort of mental problems (traumatic
stress or some such) and pretty much gets off. Maybe time in a mental
hospital.
Sue

Sue, do you think the military has a prison for the criminally insane?

No idea.

Please tell me where it is.

Not built yet. Give 'em time.

Keep me posted.

Are you under the impression that I believe this is right - that the
guy is probably going to get off?
Sue

If convicted, he will be incarcerated at Leavenworth, not wondering
around Eglin AFB and having a cherry coke at the BX.

I hope you're right. We'll just have to wait and see.
Sue

Do you get as upset about the rapists and murderers loos on the streets
of your town?

You seem to be trying to argue with me and I'm not sure why.

Your comment about getting off for post-traumatic stress or being
routed to a "mental" hospital -was- annoying.

Sorry. It wasn't meant to be. It was a comment on society in general.
Besides (this will probably get me in trouble) the guy looked kinda
scary.

My
original comment had nothing to do with whether this guy is in the
military or not.

Shirley you know folks in the military.

My name isn't Shirley. (sorry, had to say that) No, not right now.
My 1st cousin twice removed is in the Air Force and has served in Iraq
(chief mechanic on Pave Hawks) but I haven't seen him in a couple of
years and probably won't.

Ask them about the UCMJ.

Well, I was a big fan of JAG. Is that good enough? :o) (Please not
the smiley face)

My intent was that *no* one seems to have to take
responsibility anymore - there's always some syndrome on which to
blame misbehavior.

The Uniform Code of Military Justice is not your usual court with
elected liberal judges. And "jury by your peers" really means peers
(other military members), not the lowest common denominator of society
who has no place better to be than sitting in a court room collecting a
"big" paycheck. Military "peers" tend to be very hard people when
judging their own.

I'm not sure if I should say "good" or not. You seem to be a bit
sensitive and I'm screwed no matter what I say.

I'm sorry if my opinion bothers your apparently
liberal heart. Personal responsibility is important to me and excuses
don't wash. I work in a welfare office (in the event that you weren't
aware of this) and I get really tired of this excuse laden society we
have.

I think you'll get your wish in this case.

What is my wish in this case? Hell, I don't even know anymore. :o)

As far as the murders and rapists in my town are concerned - it's been
a long time since we've had either of those events IIRC.
Sue

But they're probably still running loose.

Who? We haven't had any murders in a couple of years and, to the
best of my knowledge, no reported rapes lately (which doesn't mean
there haven't been any). So, who is running lose?
