It is that time of year again ( Site Rep New Castle Indiana - Blackout)

With the heat index in the 90's F the old lines start to fail and bang
out with the lights.

Here is what worked for me in my supplies. For emergency lighting.

Non-reusable:

Snap lights - Draw back I found out tonight be careful what color
light you use you might be attacked by lightning bugs natural
predators. After 12 hours you have Trash to throw away.

Flashlights - I have two mag lights D cells One 5 batteries long the
other 6 batteries long. In some areas of the US considered to be a
weapon. Here I just do not care it is a tool for me to use. Draw back #
2 after so many hours of service batteries are trash.

Reusable:

Dorcy Dynamo L.E.D. flashlight This was the gem of the lights i have
short term man rechagable light. I do not suggest charging the light in
a gas leak though.

Today after 6 black outs on average a year i have bought this

Brinkmann Flouressent / LED; solar / Cigarette lighter socket / AC/DC
adapter rechargeable lantern. Results TBA.

Roadmaster Dynamo seams to work almost the same as the Dorcy. I still
only recommend cranking it one direction and that is clockwise the box
says can crank either direction but LED lights are picky about which
way the power flows through them so I will stick to clockwise.

More snap lights (they are the only things i would use if i suspect a
gas leak in the building.)

Just remember folks it is storm season so lets gear up the bobs and see
what works.

And the new issue of Mother Earth News is out now too it is worth a
read Honest!
