The inclination of humans to be self-absorbed and seek security is
predictable. To this end they will pursue their self-interest. The
uniquness of the American republic was to eliminate this potential
from government; to restrain the power of government from benefitting
the individual or the group. Over the years this has been compromised.
This is the condition that Communists exploited to weaken the Republic
in the 1930s.
Sounds about right.:)
Most people want peace and security but don't always count the cost or
recognize those things as illusory and/or fragile.
But the beginning of this change can be seen in the 1913 Federal
Reserve Act and the Income Tax Act. Eliminate just these two and much
of accrued federal power to cater to groups and manipulate society
At least the government went to the trouble of getting constitutional
amendments to give some legitimacy to them, and to Prohibition. (Well,
the Income Tax anyway. Don't know about the Federal Reserve Act.)
It doesn't seem to bother with that little thing anymore.
Bring back, Oh bring back
Oh, bring back that old continuity.
Bring back, oh, bring back
Oh, bring back Clerk Maxwell to me.
