Oh, my!!
Think of the kind of prank calls that could be done with that!!
Do cell phones work underground?
No.
Cell phones of the new variety put out less than a watt of microwave
radiation. Certainly not enough to penetrate 6 feet of moist earth.
The old bag phones which were the size of a small suitcase and
weighted the same put out 3 watts, but those were analog. The new
phones are digital and use much less power for a better quality call.
I used to have one of those, a "Transportable" is what they were called
if memory serves me right.
They might have pumped out more wattage, (mind you they didn't have the
transmitters they do now) but outside a major city the signal was worse
than useless.
The reason the old tube style radios were so finely tuned and had
imprssive tuner sections was due to the fact transmitters were distant
and of low power. Today..most AM radios for example..have shitty front
ends, simply because they dont need to be sensitive..with radio
stations on every block ..so to speak

"The importance of morality is that people behave themselves even if
nobody's watching. There are not enough cops and laws to replace
personal morality as a means to produce a civilized society. Indeed,
the police and criminal justice system are the last desperate line of
defense for a civilized society. Unfortunately, too many of us see
police, laws and the criminal justice system as society's first line
of defense." --Walter Williams
