Curious; do you think the lump area at the perimeter of the lucite or
lexan or whatever is a light path to a photo cell used as feedback to
regulate the output?
No, I've examined this under a 30X microscope, and it is definitely an
injection mold mark. It may be used in the assembly process to spin
the light augmentation device into place. There -are- some machine
marks inside the injection molded groove to suggest that something
mechanical was in there and left some scratches inside as a result.
Curious, but it seems in no way to effect the beam pattern, which is
square rather than round. But then again, the LED is square, so who
knows. The Lens of the LED is conical, but the LED electrical
elements are square, and you can see that in the beam pattern.
No biggie, as when in use on a project, this is invisible.
