Re: Surviving unemployment

Any great tips for surviving unemployment?

I'm out of work again. It isn't a serious survival threat since we
can live indefinitely on my wife's salary. (Our house payment is much
smaller than we qualified for, credit card bills normally get paid in
full every month, and we don't buy new cars until we've saved up
enough money to pay cash.)

I love that bit about the cars , I just bought me another car on ebay , for $162 , I bid on it more for a joke than anything ,but I kinda wanted it cos I have a set of mag wheels thatll fit it thats doing nothing and I wanted a set of wheels like whats on it for another car , it having rego and being roadworthy are bonus .

But buying a new car? I never done that in my life yet , the devaluation of it as soon as the paper is signed puts me off , as does the initial exhorbitant purchase price , the lack of a decent carburetted car , its all fool-infection now days with computer modules and antipollution gear hanging out everywhere ... the heat has been known to fry the modules , jump starting has been known to fry engine management units , if you drive thru a puddle too deep and the floor of the car floods , the cumputer is all wet too and its too bad for it ....
And did I mention new cars are expensive to buy as well ?
YMMV but for me older cars do the same job just as good , and are way more disposable too , the paint takes more sun and shrubery and abuse with no fear , the panels take more dents , its way easier to be agressive in a old car in traffic with no fear as well ... and they do jumps better , with less damage to the resale value ( bug out practise ya know ) go bush bashing , spotlighting , tolerate blood stains when you hunting , more versatile as hunting vehicles, their carpet takes the mud blood and sand from getting bogged easier etc etc etc

I been with folk with new cars and they too scared to get them dirty , chipped , dented or plain old bent ... they been with me in my car and swear black and blue they are *NEVER* going to let me use theirs ... I might mark it up or something .

Would love to hear any tips for finding work or for staying employed.

Have already posted Bob G's tips for finding work on my website at http://www.tincher.to/jobsbg.htm
and will read them again tonight.

Despite my personal for work ( its a dirty 4 letter word ending in 'k' that shouldnt be used in polite company ) and the working classes ...

I have been known to find employment for both myself and friends who have actualy wanted a job either because they hated the one they had or wanted one because they didnt actualy have one , by simply using the yellow pages , looking up business in the field you want to work in and ring em up and aske them if theyre looking for someone with your skills .

Freecall numbers are good for this if youre short on coin .
