Since I will not be sailing to third world countries or places where
piracy is common I simply don't worry about them. As far as the local
scum, they rob boats anyway, cops or no cops. You simply have to
demonstrate to them that you are not worth the trouble. I haven't had
any problems since I caught a guy stealing an oar out of my dinghy. In
effect I don't bother with paranoid fantasys of pirates, waterborne or
on the beach. My little trimaran says "broke boater" rather than
"yachtsman with money" There are plenty of places to go without heading
to some backwards third world country.
