I don't see a mention in those of FDR and Churchill being willing to accept
a draw. That's the really interesting concept. Got a *specific* link for
that?

Ridiculously late. Germany was conquered and Japan's navy and air force
reduced to practically nothing but a few kamikazes. The ground resistance
was nasty indeed, but totally futile.

Guadalcanal was a helluva fight. My father flew supplies into Henderson
Field. He seldom talked about the war, but he specifically told me of his
admiration for the Marines on the ground there and the hardships they
endured in the jungle.
Note, however, that the Japanese were already on the defensive.
I'll stick with Midway.

Ha! Many answers...are no answer at all. That's why we have alternate
histories (which, by the way, may be quite real. Ask Bottlebob about that
on a.m.c sometime!)
