Understood but I fear a solar system may not be enough for my needs. The UK
winters are joke when it comes to sunshine, and the UK summers are not much
better.
The ideal scenario is to be able to power my house system as well as
possible in the event of the power grid going down. I also like the idea of
being completely independent of the electricity supplier if that was
possible, regardless of the power grid status.
This is what I had in mind. A bank of 12v batteries all connected in
parrallel. A power generator of some kind to charge the batteries. An
inverter connected to the batteries to feed the house with 240v AC. At the
very minimum I would want enough power to drive the fridge/freezer. Anything
else may be important but secondary. I can't see solar panels being able to
provide enough trickle for that. I've seen a wind turbine that peaks at 400W
in a good wind, and the good thing about a wind turbine is that it could
keep trickling the batteries through the night, which a solar system
wouldn't. What are your thoughts on this?
I certainly take on board your advice about getting a delsuphering unit. The
one at northerntools would need 110v though, and I'm on 240v in the UK. I
will look around to see if there's an equivalent uk unit.
