I went under the house I went to were it comes from the well and followed
the whole pipe and saw no leaks or filer.
I fellow at work told me there is a screen filter that comes from the pump
to the pipe that comes out of the ground.
It is a screen type. I was thinking of pulling my pump out of the ground
to see.
It was strong I get in the shower it is good and about half way it gets no
pressure is causing it to be strong and weak.
I'm laid off at work and can't afford a well guy to come put a $500 bill
on me.
We gotta deal with it for now. At least I got some water..

Were is the filter? The pressure tank is buried by the pipe that comes up
out of the ground from the well.
I know the OFF ON switch but were is the filter?
It's your well and water system... it could be anywhere between the well
and the main entering your house (the filter, and yu may have more than
one type, would be in an easily accessible place, and that won't freeze,
like in a well pit or basement, you need to look... you may not have a
filter either, your only filter may be the screen in your well point
casing... from the symptoms you describe I suspect that screen is
partially clogged... you may need a well company to have a look and I bet
they will change your well point screen... they have a camera they can
send down into your well to have a look so it's not hit or miss about
spending a lot of money to pull up your well pipe. I think if you have a
filter cartridge you can change yourself you would have found it by now....
those need changing like once a year anyway, how long are you living
there?

I have a in ground Well.. From the Well to the house first there is a
stand up hydrant. The kind you pull up the lever what shoots out.
Then it travels to a off on switch about 3' down in the ground. Then into
my house which is 3,000 sq ft
Inside the house I have very little pressure water trickles out of the
shower upstairs.
Last week I had to replace a switch that got struck by lighting.. I
replaced the switch that is down in the Well pipe. Water came back on fine
with the same pressure. A week later it is doing this.. Sometimes the
Pressure is OK. mainly at night my pressure is nothing.
I go to the hydrant and cut on and water comes out STRONG as it does??
What could this be

plugged filter?
If the pressure at the standpipe is strong then the pipe between it
and the bottom of the well (including the screen) is not clogged. The
problem lies between that standpipe and inside the house.

He says sometimes the pressure is OK. A clogged/damaged screen can cause
water pressure to vary due to sand damaging the seals. Were there clogged
pipes from the well to the faucets there'd be weak water pressure
constantly, and one would see particles in the water, tap screens/aerators
would clog quickly too. I'd guess the problem is with the screen, the pump,
with the well itself, or a combination of the above.... could be a damaged
check valve, or an air block. Sometimes when not enough water is used or
not used for a long period wells can become sluggish. Often one of the
first things a well company will do is to attach a hose at the well head and
let the well pump water out into the yard for a few hours so they can
observe volume and water condition for foreign matter at the source. With
these well queries unless one is actually there the best anyone can do is
speculate, experienced well company employees couldn't begin to say what the
problem is without having a look-see and running tests on components. Since
the OP claims a lightening strike damaged a switch could be something as
simple as a motor wire connection was damaged too and it's no longer running
3 phase. Electrical appliances are very often damaged by a bad/undersized
transformer out on a pole... the power company will never tell you that they
changed a transformer in the middle of the day when you're not home.- Hide quoted text -

The water in the _house_ does that. He says the standpipe has normal
pressure. Now he isn't exaclty clear that he has good pressure at the
standpipe when they house doesn't. I read it that the pressure is
always good at the standpipe.
I have a bad standpipe that is on its own run directly off the well.
Mostly it has weak pressure but occasionally it will give normal
pressure. There is no problem with the rest of the system. Obviously
a partial blockage that clears itself occasionally. It is on one of
my "things to do when bored' - dig up the 'stop-n-waste' at the well
first and if not there then the standpipe.
