It has come full circle. Now some cleaners are nothing more than a metal grid
that holds up a thin layer of oiled or dry foam. Not the thick block of foam
you found in the old B&S or Tecumseh engines, but a 1/8" thick piece of foam
that sometimes crumbles and gets sucked through the metal grid.
the Ford 4000 tractor has an oil bath air cleaner. works
great and has never required the expense of purchasing a
new filter. after 35 years of use the input side is nasty
while the output side remains clean. to me there's the
proof of how efficient the design was.
in my work I use many different B&S engines and no two of
them have the same air filter type. their shape or sizes
are different.
