Honda genrator - fuel in crankcase?

I just obtained a Honda EM3500x generator. My guess is that it has not seen
much use. An even better guess is that this has been sitting around unused
for a number of years.
It really looks brand new. I opened the dip stick do-dad, and a lot of
liquid came out. Obviously too full. To me, it seemed like very thin oil,
then I noticed a gas smell to it. The fuel valve was in the open position.
Did the gas tank drain into the crankcase over time?
Aside from draining the crankcase and replacing the oil, properly, and
checking the spark plug, is there anything else I should do, given that this
has been sitting for a long time, and is in this awkward state?
What vintage is this machine? Any other thoughts?
thanks.
