unfortunate that at least this newsgroup is now mostly spam and abusive
posters. It was a great resource at one time.

Usenet is old technology, that grew out of text based BBS computer
networks. Once upon a time it was fun, like AM radio.

UNIX was the cord and fundamental for the establishment of usenet which
in and of itself was the first internet. in it's original intent
it was a means for people of like minds to share information with
one another in a rapid fashion or to transfer large blocks of text back
and forth or to simply locate said information in such a place as to
have made it available to a community of persons finding the information
useful.

back in the days when strange key sequences were arranged in such
a fashion so as to formulate the various commands needed, in order
to transmit, connect, start and stop date flow or simply make the
determination as to whether or nor the desired destination was even
powered up and available to receive, there were very few who were
actually aware and fewer who could apply said awareness.

in those days bandwidth was narrow and traffic was lite. as is
the case with most all of man's inventions, improvements resulting
from the evolution of man's technology have had the exceptionable
result of making to much available to soon to those whose deleterious
nature it is to bring about a detrimental consequence.

technology having created the low cost automobile in conjunction
with the wide spread use of credit has made it possible for mankind
to pollute and foul the air we breath by the over use of the combustion
engine. so it is the same for usenet with the spawn of cheap computing
ladened with simplistic graphic user interface platforms which have
enabled the uncouth access and thereby the means to spread and infect.
