Years ago I was working on a job site surrounded by state forest
game lands. During deer season we wore the brightest colors we
owned and were continually thankful that the area only allowed
deer hunting with punkin' ball shotguns because it often sounded
like the gunfight at the OK corral. I used to do much the same
thing as you only I would start with a scream and follow up with
"I'm hit!"


I was thinking of writing a fake obituary for Bubba and putting it in
the paper, with the words "Shot in woods by unknown shooter at
*location*, $10,000 reward offerred", and hoped that these idiots
would crap in the pants from fear, and move out of state. That's when
I realized that rednecks can't read.......

Oh well, maybe they'll move anyhow..... I hope so....

Here's what we do in my part of south Texas. Granted we have an advantage
because the woods all the shooting goes on in is surrounded by a road that
is the only way in or out. But, when we hear a shot from a high powered
rifle, pistol or other firearm that uses bullets (as opposed to shotguns
which we don't mind) that come sailing through the trees, we get out the
spyglasses. First we drive around the horseshoe road (it's about 4 miles
around the loop back to our drive). If we see a vehicle parked on the side
of the road, we take it for granted it belongs to the shooters and we write
down the license number. If we don't see a vehicle on the drive around, we
just wait for one to pull out onto the highway as we are only a quarter of a
mile from the intersection and we can see easily from our upper deck. So,
having the license number and once we see the vehicle leaving, we call the
sheriff and tell them a (description of the vehicle) bearing license number
heading X on US XX might be carrying illegal weapons. It's illegal to carry
handguns in a vehicle where they are accessible to anyone in the cabin, in
Texas. So, more times than not they get stopped and popped and it costs them
about $700.00 plus costs. We haven't heard gunshots in about two years now
and it used to be at least 10 or 12 times a week.
