That was good for a chuckle. "Fragile ecosystem".
Jeeze John! Are you really that ignorant about ecological damage done by
exotic species?
Ignorant? Hardly. Member of the Church of the Environment and a gaia worshiper?
Nope. You gotta be careful there, dude. You're sounding as whacko as the
scientologists.
"devastation" cuz a few
pest birds are killed off. Thanks, I needed that.
And no doubt you think that your experiences with the native bird population
of New Zealand (and thus your knowledge of which birds you'd consider to be
pests) would be far more extensive than that of Pete Heubner who actually
lives in New Zealand?????????
Nothing of the sort. One wonders at the splintered logic that you used to arrive at
that conclusion. I simply don't consider the diminution of a non-game,
non-agricultural animal to be of any consequence. Negative effects on agricultural
flora or fauna, sure. Like the feral pigs that have become a pest in TN. Those are
disrupting agriculture and therefore must be eliminated.
One question, though. How
do "feral cats" kill off flora. That's just a fancy word for "plants". I
know that
a cat'll eat a bit of grass now and again but really, have you ever seen
one
gnaw down a hickory tree?
Good grief! Pete did NOT write that cats kill off flora. Reread what he
wrote.
Actually he did. The part that you snipped:
We live in a country with a fragile eco system where introduced rats, cats and
possums have wracked devestation on the native flora and fauna.
I still want to see a cat or possum affect plants in any significant manner.
If you actually knew anything about ecological damage done by exatic
species, you might be able to apply it to what Pete wrote. Pete was
referring to the introduction of the Australian Possum into New Zealand.
Note that Pete wrote about Possums and it is these animals that are the ones
which Pete was referring to as doing the damage to flora.
Again, I simply don't subscribe to your enviro-religious beliefs. Like all religious
zealots, you immediately drop down to name calling for anyone who doesn't agree with
your narrow view of the world.
