That was good for a chuckle. "Fragile ecosystem". "devastation" cuz a few pest
birds are killed off. Thanks, I needed that. One question, though. How do "feral
cats" kill off flora. That's just a fancy word for "plants". I know that a cat'll
eat a bit of grass now and again but really, have you ever seen one gnaw down a
hickory tree?

The preferred
application for feral cats comes out of a 12 gauge shotgun. It repells them
backwards by about 1/2 metre and comprehensively stops them from coming back.

I haven't seen any feral cats that needed killin' around here but yes, the shotgun is
the pretty much universal solution to mobile pests. Or the high power pellet gun
where noise is a factor. Mine is very effective with squirrels, crows, bluejays,
barn swallows and a few other pest critters.

The difficulty being the distinction between a feral cat and the cat belonging to
the person down the road. If cats were treated like dogs -- required to be
licensed, vaccinated, and displaying tags to that effect -- there'd be much less
difficulty telling the difference.

Ben Franklin really was right - Americans aren't smart enough to hold on to the
liberties they gave us. Most of us in rural areas want to be as far away from
government meddling as possible. Here you are advocating importing the bastards to
lay on city-style regulations. If you want that stuff then by all means, move back
to the city.

In these parts, there's no such thing as an undesirable cat unless it turns up rabid.
So-called feral cats perform a valuable service in killing off all sorts of pests
including pest birds. I just wish they were a little better with squirrels and
chipmunks. I'd be real pissed (and so would my neighbors) if some *sshole started
killing off our natural pest controllers.
