Another fence question

This concerns what to do at gate posts. Since the gate post will
serve as both a support for the gate and the end post to hold the
wires, do I put on 2 brace wires. . .one from the bottom of the end
post to the top of the brace post and another from the bottom of the
brace post to the top of the end post? If this is correct, does it
matter which wire is installed first? Also, do you go ahead and twist
the first wire before installing the 2nd.
As I drive down the road, I notice that most of the fences do not have
any twist sticks in them. Will the wire continue to hold after you
have twisted them without leaving the sticks in place. I have thought
about using a small 1/2" galvenized coupling with a rebar for
twisting. The rebar would run through the coupling and the coupling
would be placed where the wire twists. That way, after twisting to
the desired amount, you could remove the rebar. I can imagine that
the wire would untwist slightly but would it stay tight enough with
out leaving the twist stick in place? Thanks for any help
.
